Steeple Chase Mug Circa 1850 This is a colourful pottery mug.  It has a height of 9.5cms and a diameter of 9cms The strong brown transfer completely wraps around the mug with the jockeys jerseys being picked out in colour The handle is good, with a little wear consistent with the age of the mug.  The whole scene is one of action and excitement, with appreciative groups of spectators on foot and in coaches.  The horses are exceptionally well portrayed, with excellent definition and detail.     

This item has been sympathetically restored so it is pleasing to the eye.  The base has a brown manufactures mark “Steeple Chase J&RG, “John and Robert Godwin Staffordshire.

Coursing Mug Circa 1850   This is a colourful pottery mug.  It has a height of 10.5cms and a diameter of 9.5cms.  The strong well-defined brown transfer completely wraps around the mug with certain details being picked out in colour.  By the handle, where there is a manufacturing imperfection, is printed “Coursing”.  The item has had a professional restoration for a chip/crack, but it has been sympathetically done so as not to detract from the appeal of this very unusual item.  There is no makers mark.

Cricket plate circa 1850  This is a child’s pottery alphabet plate, measuring 17.25cms in diameter.  The alphabet border has crisp mouldings with clear definition.  The central brown printed transfer has eight players engaged in a game of cricket.  The background depicts village life and the scene is enhanced by the use of green, brown, yellow and pink colouring.  The rim of the plate has some slight rubbing and there is some glaze cracking, contemporary with the age of the plate.  The glaze is clear, clean and bright and all of the transfer is present.  The only slight discolouration is below the letter “Z” The item has no restoration and it is in excellent condition.
